Piel teledermatology & teledermatopathology project

Piel Dermatology & teledermatopathology project is a new medical web application whereby physicians, medical students and any other healthcare workers can discuss cases in clinical dermatology and dermatopathology of tropical diseases with special emphasis on leprosy. A collaboration project between Austria, Brazil, Italy & Australia.

  • Dermatology Research Centre, The University of Queensland, School of Medicine, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane (Australia)

Our aims

This service is aimed to exchange knowledge and expertise on a worldwide level. Piel Dermatology & teledermatopathology project is completely free of charge and the site does not host or receive funding from advertising.
The teleconsultation service is based on the transmission of digital images from users to the application. Cases are submitted to a moderated forum (“discussion cases”) where all users can review the cases and post on-line their opinions.
The application is password protected: only physicians or healthcare workers are able to register and access the application. Each registration is selectively activated.

The information provided on this site is designed to support, not replace, the relationship that exists between a patient and his/her existing physician. Personal data of patients, including their identity, are not transmitted.
Piel Dermatology & teledermatopathology project undertakes to honour the legal requirements of medical/health information privacy that are applied in Austria. Piel Dermatology & teledermatopathology project does not undertake any kind of legal responsibility for the consultations.
